To ensure that the drivers we supply are of the highest quality, we have a rigorous and highly selective recruitment process. Our on boarding process consists of;
Recruitment
Drivers are recruited through;
• Advertising on active job boards using secure accounts
• Website applications
• Driver referrals
• Driver networks including applicants stored in secure CRM system
• Job sites and social media platforms including Rapidstart’s own business pages.
Where then possible, drivers are then shortlisted through our applicant tracker system.
Pre screening/Application and Interview
Selection criteria
All drivers must;
• Be 25 years or over
• Have 2 years HGV experience
• Have 12 months tanker experience
• Completed a convictions/summons declaration
• Have no more than 6 points on their driving licence
• Live within one hour commute of the terminal for the position they have applied for
• Must be Eligible to work in the UK
• Signed to agree to drug and alcohol testing where required
All candidates complete a detailed pre screening, application and interview process which includes;
• An up to date full CV must be received with every application.
• Pre screen over the phone, using a detailed individualised pre screening sheet. The prescreening sheet used would depend on; the client, contract of work and criteria requirements but all sheets have standardised questions that always must be completed.
• A copy of all drivers cards must be requested on the pre-screen telephone call. This includes; Drivers licence, ADR driver training certificate, Petroleum Driver Passport, Driver qualification card, and Driver card.
• Consent for a driving licence check and CPC training check is requested and completed.
• Face to Face interview where applicable is always considered, however if not possible a telephone interview is conducted along with video interview, e.g Zoom call and all details of assignment is discussed with the driver.
• Drivers are asked to respond to an email in regards to all assignment details given to them to test their commitment and interest in the position.
• Work related references are requested and contacted.
• Eligibility to work in the UK documentation.
Successful Applicants
• Successful applicants are sent to the Client for review.
• Any interview/ driving assessment arranged with the driver for the client, is always agreed in writing.
• A full driver’s registration must be completed which includes; a medical questionnaire, WTD, driver declarations, terms of engagement, workforce agreements, drug and alcohol testing arrangements, convictions and summons, individualised client declaration, and a competency assessment including vehicle technical knowledge and the Highway Code.
If any of the above criteria is not met satisfactorily, the application is closed.
Client Interview/driver assessments
Successful applicants then;
• Have a formally arranged interview and driving assessment with the client at a date and time suitable for both. Interviews and assessments are confirmed in writing by the driver. (normally on email)
• We as suppliers then rely on the competent professionalism of our Clients. Managers and driver trainers interview and assess the driver to their required standards and by their company policy.
• Following their interview, we then are informed whether the driver has been successful or not by the client.
Pre-Assignment
Before a driver begins their assignment, we ensure the following steps are completed where required;
• A full briefing including customer Health & Safety requirements
• All relevant licences/certifications are checked again and if requested, relevant information is passed on to the client.
• We ensure each candidate is happy with their assignment and again start dates are always confirmed in writing before they begin.
During an Assignment
We pride ourselves on having built great relationships with both candidates and clients alike, therefore we ensure that during an assignment;
• All our clients and drivers have 24-hour support from Rapidstart Recruitment services.
• Accurate timesheet data is collected to ensure clients invoice’s are accurate
• Working hours are regularly monitored throughout an assignment, helping to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation
• Regular driver contact is made, and where possible with client communication, weekly messages are sent to confirm the drivers requirements for the following week.
